Birth Trauma Awareness Week - You're Not Alone

Trigger Warning: This post talks about birth trauma and may be difficult to read if you've experienced it. Please take care of yourself and only read on if you feel ready.

---

Birth is meant to be beautiful, right? Magical. Empowering. Life-changing.

But for so many mums, the story of how their baby came into the world is not one they feel able to celebrate. Maybe it was filled with fear, pain, or moments where things felt out of control. Maybe it looked 'fine' on paper but left emotional scars no one else could see. That's birth trauma - and it's more common than we realise.

This week is Birth Trauma Awareness Week, and I want to gently remind you:

✨ If your birth didn't go as planned…

✨ If you felt unheard, scared, or powerless…

✨ If you came away feeling broken instead of blooming…

You are not alone.

Birth trauma doesn't always mean an emergency or dramatic event. Sometimes, it's about how you felt - unsupported, dismissed, confused, or even violated. And no one gets to decide if your experience 'counts' but you.

As a mum of three, I've felt this. Each birth was different - some healing, some heartbreaking. I know what it's like to feel like the world expects you to be 'grateful' just because your baby is healthy, while you're quietly trying to hold yourself together inside.

If you're navigating the aftershocks of a traumatic birth, here are some things I want you to know:

💬 Your feelings are valid, even if others don't understand them.

🫶 Healing is possible (and it doesn’t have to look like 'getting over it')

🤱 You deserve support - not just for your baby, but for you as a mother.

Whether it's talking to a therapist, joining a peer group, or simply being in a space where your feelings are seen – you're worthy of support and softness.

Let's make space for these conversations, not just this week but always. You matter. Your story matters. And healing begins with being heard.
